The Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks has some changes ahead for fees at state parks, as well as the return of one hunting season for the first time in several years.
The fall turkey hunting season is back after a 3-year absence. Wildlife and Parks says permits are only for a single bearded or male turkey. The season will go from Halloween to January 31, although there will be a 12-day closure period starting December 2. Permits will be available in early October.
Hunting hours are also adjusting for nonresidents hunting waterfowl, coot, rail or snipe on public lands and waters managed by Wildlife and Parks. The fall 2026 seasons will have nonresidents ending their hunting before noon and leaving department lands by 1 pm. There are some exceptions, including the September teal season, light geese hunting during the bird-specific conservation order or to walk-in hunting areas if nonresidents are hunting other species on department lands or are involved in Wildlife and Parks Special Hunts.
State park fee increases, meanwhile, go into effect November 1. They will not include the annual camping permit — it is getting eliminated — but they will include overnight camping, utilities and vehicle permits.
