The agreement brings together several Israeli defense systems, while a separate contract targets a growing threat facing modern militaries.
Israel and Greece signed a defense agreement worth a total of €3 billion on August 31. The deal provides for the deployment in Greece of a comprehensive, multilayered air defense system based on Israeli technologies.

The document was signed at the headquarters of Israel’s Ministry of Defense in Tel Aviv. The signatures were provided by Amir Baram, Director General of the Israeli ministry, and his Greek counterpart, Ioannis Bouras.
The “Achilles Shield” Project to Strengthen Greece’s Air Defense
Israel’s Ministry of Defense clarified that the agreement covers the “Achilles Shield” project, under which Greece will receive several types of air defense systems. The defense package is expected to include:
David’s Sling and SPYDER systems manufactured by Rafael, as well as the BARAK MX system produced by Israel Aerospace Industries.
Israel’s defense ministry described the signed contract as the largest defense export deal in the history of bilateral cooperation between Israel and Greece. It also became one of the largest export contracts in the history of Israel’s defense sector itself.
A Separate Agreement on Anti-Drone Protection
In addition to the main contract, the parties agreed on the sale of Drone Dome counter-drone systems to Greece for €26 million. These systems are also manufactured by Rafael.
The agreement provides not only for the delivery of equipment, but also for the transfer of knowledge and technology to Greece’s defense industry. Military-technical cooperation between the two countries has been ongoing for several years: in 2021, Greece and Israel agreed to establish a flight academy for Greek military personnel.
