LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — Vice President JD Vance’s visit to Las Vegas on Monday is bringing temporary flight restrictions and expected road closures to the valley, prompting local officials to advise travelers and motorists to plan ahead.
Vance is in Southern Nevada to address key Republican leaders at the Republican Jewish Coalition’s (RJC) Annual Leadership Summit.
To accommodate the vice presidential movement, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has issued a Temporary Flight Restriction (TFR) for the Las Vegas area.
The airspace restrictions are scheduled to take effect Monday, Aug. 31, at 3:30 p.m. PDT and will remain in place until Tuesday, Sept. 1, at 10:30 a.m. PDT.

The TFR covers a six-nautical-mile radius centered near the Las Vegas Harry Reid International Airport. Under these rules, general aviation, drone operations, and local sightseeing flights will face strict limits, though commercial passenger airlines at Harry Reid International Airport are expected to continue operating with minimal disruption.
On the ground, motorists should prepare for rolling road closures and sudden traffic delays. While specific motorcade routes are not disclosed for security reasons, the resort corridor, Interstate 15, and roads surrounding Harry Reid International Airport are expected to experience heavy congestion during Vance’s arrival and departure.
Commuters and visitors traveling near the Las Vegas Strip are urged to allow extra time and seek alternative routes where possible.
Vance is among several prominent GOP leaders scheduled to speak at the RJC’s high-profile summit this week.
Details regarding his departure on Tuesday morning align with the expiration of the FAA’s flight restrictions.
