It is certainly the season for glittering aristocratic weddings – and for a number of royal engagements, for that matter. Last week, Prince Georg of Liechtenstein, scion of one of the world’s richest royal families, announced his engagement to Princess Maria-Nives von der Leyen. The right royal pair’s good news was revealed by Georg’s parents, Hereditary Prince Alois and Hereditary Princess Sophie, on Friday.
A statement from the Royal Palace read: ‘HRH Hereditary Prince Alois and HRH Hereditary Princess Sophie of Liechtenstein are delighted to announce the engagement of their son Prince Georg to Princess Maria-Nives von der Leyen.’
The Hereditary Prince and Princess went on to note that ‘the wedding of Princess Maria-Nives and Prince Georg is expected to take place in Germany in late Summer 2027.’
As the third child of Sophie and Alois, Prince Georg occupies a unique position in Liechtenstein’s royal family – a famously private institution. The 27-year-old groom-to-be is a graduate of Malvern College, where alumni include Prince Ernst August of Hanover, C.S. Lewis, and Georg’s sibling, Princess Marie-Caroline of Liechtenstein and Prince Joseph Wenzel of Liechtenstein.
