  1. I was really happy to hear this and thought I might be able to listen to the afternoon show now, then I saw Scott Mills is in talks to take over.

  2. Everyone else being humorous or understated, good job I am enough of a cunt to say what people really think: “fuck off, good riddance, you were annoying, nowhere near as funny as you thought you were and all-round just a little bit shit”.

  3. American here, but what’s the point of BBC2? Is there a huge demographic in the UK that craves Ed Sheeran with a whole lot of disco thrown in?

  4. Oh no! I’ll really miss the constant updates on how long til the ‘serious jockin’ bit was next going to be on – days in advance – NOT!!

  5. Radio 2 is way past its peak. Steve Wright’s diehard fans would happily listen to an archive of his shows and not even realise they weren’t live.

  6. I would say “thank fuck for that” but then I remembered I haven’t listened to radio 2 since my parents had to drive me everywhere.

    So… meh I guess.

  7. He continued: “In addition, I’ll still be presenting Love Songs every Sunday on Radio 2, and I’ll be making seasonal special programmes also on Radio 2 and BBC Sounds and Serious Jokin’ no G will be heard on BBC sounds and Radio 2.’

My car is pretty old so I mostly listen to Radio 4 and Radio 2. I’ve been driving the afternoon recently and I don’t get the serious jockin’ thing, he acts like it’s a national institution when it’s the weakest joke ever.

Whenever I hear the name DJ Silly Boy I think I’m missing something about the name and it’s actually really arch and witty.

  8. I’m in the age bracket now that I can’t stand Radio 1 and probably listen to Radio 2 more than other stations. Get Mark and Lard back together and give them the gig.

  9. Is he still doing the bit where he’ll replay old clips of an impressionist having to say who they’re impersonating because it’s such a weak impression? He had the energy of an uncle at a wedding who wouldn’t let you walk away until you forced a laugh at his ‘jokes’.

  10. I haven’t listened for 10years or more but judging from the comments nothing changed. Love or hate is a bit strong. It is the end of an era. 40 odd years ago I really appreciated his radio 1 show. Then I moved abroad. On returning it was reassuringly amusing to catch him on R2. Admittedly because it was the same formula 15years later. Even a decade ago it wasn’t the end of the world if I had his show on in the background due to an absence of DAB radio at work.

Thanks for the laughs and good luck Mr Wright.

PS. I will not be listening to Scott fkin Mills
