The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported that 2,240 people were killed across various parts of Syria between the beginning of 2026 and the end of August.
The Observatory stated that the recorded casualties included both civilians and military personnel; 1,503 civilians lost their lives, while 737 non-civilians were killed as a result of mutual violence, field clashes, armed attacks, and ongoing security instability across various governorates.
The Observatory noted significant fluctuations in casualty figures from month to month, depending on the intensity of military escalation and developments on the ground, and affirmed its commitment to continuously monitoring and updating the data as it is verified.
The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights emphasized that the continued loss of life month after month demonstrates that the humanitarian crisis cannot be deferred. It reiterated its call to prioritize the protection of civilian lives—independent of political and military calculations—and urged immediate action to halt the violence and spare the country further bloodshed.
