BURLINGTON, Vt. (ABC22/FOX44) — Burlington’s community center in the New North End will soon close for upgrades and HVAC renovations, says Burlington Parks, Recreation and Waterfront.
The Robert Miller Community and Recreation Center will be closed from September 21to November 6. During that time energy-efficient enhancements will be put in place, reportedly with the goal of making the center Burlington’s first city-owned building to operate on Net Zero Energy.
Among the planned improvements include the replacement of a gas boiler with controllable electric heaters in restrooms, and the removal of three existing natural gas domestic water heaters.
Officials on the project say that the city will reportedly save $11,000 annually on natural gas costs, among other monetary savings once the net-zero renovations are complete.
Officials note that the gym area will reopen for voting Tuesday, November 2.
