Janis Mažeiks, the former European Union ambassador to Moldova, has become a reservist in the Latvian Armed Forces.
He said that over the course of three weeks, he underwent military training, during which he learned how to handle weapons, provide first aid to the wounded, counter drone attacks, and perform routine military duties.
According to Mažeiks, his decision to undergo training stems from a desire to be ready to defend Latvia if necessary.
“After more than 30 years of working to strengthen Latvia’s security, I wanted to acquire the skills necessary to defend the country with a weapon in hand if necessary,” he said.
Mazejeks announced his enlistment in the reserves on Facebook.
