The leader of the Fidesz parliamentary group accused the government of undermining the foundations of political alternation in power and of acting against a viable opposition alternative, in an episode of the Civilek Podcast published on Wednesday. János Bóka said that Viktor Orbán, president of Fidesz, will continue to be a defining figure on the civic, conservative side in the future.
In the podcast of the Civil Összefogás Fórum, the politician accused the Tisza Party of running a “campaign of lies” before the elections and now conducting “governance by lies.” He stated that Tisza’s communication is built on the aim of winning every single day, and for this reason its messaging has no antecedents or consequences — each day and each piece of communication stands as a unit in itself.
For as long as this “bubble” can be kept afloat, the system remains functional, he added.
János Bóka did not dispute that the Tisza Party, just as Fidesz-KDNP had previously, has the right to exercise its two-thirds mandate; however, he argued that Tisza had carried out “constitution-making that goes beyond constitutional boundaries,” which he deemed unacceptable.
Referring to the prime ministerial term limit and the parliamentary representatives’ term limit, he said the government is undermining the foundations of political alternation in power when the majority uses legal means to dictate who may run against it in elections.
The Tisza party members themselves can see that the current “Facebook governance” will soon cause serious problems, and from that point on their chances of political survival will diminish significantly. This is why the governing party is “taking giant strides” toward ensuring that, by the time that moment arrives, it will have used legal, police, administrative, and judicial means to prevent a viable opposition alternative from existing on the other side — he added.
At the same time, he stressed that in 2030, people will be able to decide at the ballot box whether what began in 2026 should continue or whether there should be something different. The Fidesz parliamentary group leader defined his own task as making the civic, conservative, right-wing alternative appealing and capable of entering the 2030 elections with a genuine chance of success.
Viktor Orbán has been a defining figure in this community both now and over the past decades, and this will remain the case in the future as well — stressed János Bóka.
The Fidesz party president’s political and innovative capacity, and his ability to “hear and sense” what the Hungarian people envision for the country’s future, is not a burden but an asset to the party, the parliamentary group leader said.
He acknowledged that under the current constitutional framework Viktor Orbán cannot run as a member of parliament in the 2030 elections and is not eligible to be prime minister, but he promised that if Fidesz receives a mandate to rewrite these rules, it would “open up further possibilities.”
János Bóka — who served as minister responsible for European Union affairs in the previous government — accused the Tisza government, in connection with bringing EU funds back to Hungary, of having concluded an agreement under which the money merely “flows through Hungary” while actually reaching foreign interests for designated purposes.
