Moldova’s energy regulator, ANRE, has reallocated the volume of natural gas to be stored for the 2026–2027 winter, which is 140.35 million cubic metres, or 1.48 million MWh, and has to be stockpiled by 1 November.
The change was made necessary by reforms to the natural gas market that took effect on 1 April, when 203 large consumers with annual gas consumption exceeding 100,000 cubic metres switched from the regulated supply system to purchasing gas from suppliers at negotiated prices on the free market. This represents around 55 per cent of the country’s total gas consumption.
In its recalculation, ANRE took into account the volumes of gas consumed by these companies in the first quarter of 2026.
The update aims to avoid imposing a disproportionately high storage obligation on the supplier.
ANRE also amended the volumes to be stored for the Transnistrian region, increasing them from the previously set 53.7 million cubic metres, or 567,335 MWh, to 135.972 million cubic metres, or 1,435,603 MWh. The calculation is based on the average annual consumption of final consumers in the Transnistrian region over the last five years.
