Dürr wins final assembly contract for Volvo Cars Slovakia

Dürr will supply final assembly technology for Volvo Cars’ first dedicated all-electric plant in Košice, Slovakia, with production at the facility due to begin in 2027. The scope covers conveyor, filling, and end-of-line testing systems for a facility with maximum annual capacity of 250,000 vehicles.

Dürr is handling the scope as a single contract under its NEXT.assembly concept, which integrates conveyor, filling, and testing technologies as modular components. The firm already supplies vehicle geometry and headlight alignment technology to all Volvo Cars plants worldwide, and Košice extends that relationship into final assembly.

Filling systems are designed for future low conductivity coolants and air conditioning refrigerants required by new European legislation. End-of-line inspection uses the x-wheel system for chassis geometry measurement and the x-light system for headlamp calibration.

Dürr electric monorail systems

The conveyor supply covers more than three kilometres of electric monorail systems, skillet platforms, and modular chain conveyors to link the plant’s final assembly stations. Dürr specifies the design as using low-maintenance components suited to high-volume production.

In a statement, Jörg Neumann, Director of End of Line Product Line at Dürr, said: “Volvo Cars has exceptionally high standards when it comes to measurement accuracy. We are very familiar with these standards, as Dürr equips all Volvo sites worldwide with vehicle geometry and headlight alignment technology.”
