New Delhi, Sept 3, 2026 (ANI): MEA Secretary (West) Sibi George said, “Belgium PM Bart De Wever is currently on an official visit to India from 2nd to 4th September. This is the first visit to India by a Belgian Prime Minister in two decades… Prime Minister Modi visited Belgium in 2016. This visit comes at a time when our bilateral relationship is on an upward trajectory, following the inaugural India-Belgium strategic dialogue held in Brussels in July this year. It also builds on the strong momentum generated by the visit of Her Royal Highness Princess Astrid last year, leading a major economic mission from Belgium to India… The successful conclusion of the India-EU-FTA negotiations, the mother of all deals in January this year, and the growing India-EU strategic partnership have given a fresh momentum to our engagement with Europe. This visit significantly contributes to our broader engagement with the European Union. Prime Minister of Belgium is accompanied by the Belgian Minister of Defense and Foreign Trade… During their restricted and delegation-level meetings, the two leaders reviewed the entire gamut of bilateral relations… They expressed their commitment to further expanding and deepening this multifaceted relationship and discussed various initiatives to take the relationship forward… Other elements of the program of the Prime Minister of Belgium in India included a major business event where the Prime Minister delivered a keynote address in the context of the successful conclusion of the EU-India free trade agreement, negotiations, and the strong complementarities between the Belgian and Indian economies. There was also a call on the Prime Minister of Belgium by our Minister of Civil Aviation. Prime Minister will continue his visit to Mumbai tomorrow, where he is expected to engage with various stakeholders, including those from the diamond, ports, and logistics sectors.”
