On this day in 1996, Will Smith and Jeff Goldblum, along with our armed forces, successfully repelled an alien invasion that could have wiped our very existence off this Earth. It’s amazing to believe it’s been 26 years already, but not a day goes by that I don’t think about it.

  1. I’m sick of Randy Quaid not getting the recognition he deserves, if it wasn’t for his sacrifice we wouldn’t be sitting here today.

  2. We will not go quietly into the night! We will not vanish without a fight! We’re going to live on! We’re going to survive! Today we celebrate our Independence Day!

  3. It’s such a shame it succeeded. We had to go through the more despairing hell of Trumpian politics, covid and the associated shite when the anti-vax/anti-covid/anti-thinking pricks spawned.

  4. I seen it in the cinema and was a bit surprised when a lot of people cheered at the White House being blown up and booed at the end with the cringy shite about it no longer being an American holiday.

That was back when most people were still a bit brainwashed by the soft power of American media making you think the place was amazing in every possible way.

  5. Ah it’s not all down to them. Remember the ship that positioned itself over Belfast. Well until somone projected a giant tricolour onto that was. That didn’t last long. And I hear it was only the sandy row lads that were shooting at it, maybe one or 2 rpg’s but nothing flies like a hate filled bullet aimed at themmuns.

  6. It was the apple laptop and operating system that saved us by being able to upload the virus to the mothership.

The corporations will save this planet.

  7. Remember that time Bruce Willis led a team of deep core oil drillers on an intercept trajectory to land on an asteroid the size of Texas, drill to a depth of 800feet and detonated a nuclear war head inside, saving the population of earth ?
    That was pretty sweet.

  8. If there’s any part of this I want to believe, it’s that OP truly thinks about Independence Day every day of his life.
