BT staff vote for first national strike in 35 years

  1. I love the callout in the article:

    > BT’s chief executive Philip Jansen, who received a 32% pay rise last year to £3.5m due to bonuses and share awards, has said the company cannot afford to sweeten its staff deal. BT made almost £2bn in profits for the year to the end of March, with shareholders receiving £700m in dividends.

  2. So many strikes announced lately. Maybe the UK should combine its various work sectors and organise a General Strike. I don’t think the country can wait until 2024 to kick out the Tories.

  3. For anyone like me who has tried to reach them on the phone at any point in the last 30 years, we’ve assumed they have been on strike for those same 30 years.

  4. Good, I worked there last year and asked about a pay rise and got told it wasn’t possible for the last two years because of covid and no profits. This was at the same time as hiring Davina McCall to host a virtual event where they were saying about how good the last few years had been.

Fuck this piece of shit company.

  5. Get Mick Lynch back on the TV with the head of this union. Be nice if we can get all the union bosses to stick together

  6. Why are they raising prices by 5% when they made £2bn in profit last year?

Greed. Gotta pay all the boomer shareholders who once again benefitted from dismantling and selling off our infrastructure.

  7. >BT gave 58000 workers a £1500 pay rise in April…

Note how for the average engineer that represents hardly a 4% increase.

    >BT made almost £2bn profit in the year ending in March

    >BT’s chief executive Philip Jansen who received a 32% pay rise says BT **cannot afford to sweeten the deal**

Any time you see some rag news outlet say the unions are causing chaos with these strikes, just remind yourself which party is the one making £2bn in profit off of the workers and only gave 58000*£1500 = £87m of it back. That’s not even *five percent*.

  8. Everybody was UK striking,

those kids were fast as lightning,

in fact it was a little bit frightening

    for the Tories’ future prospects.

  9. Unlike the railways where there is very specific training needed for those roles, I’d imagine some half decent coders and agency workers could step in quite easily with regard to this.

  10. Hopefully our voices are heard off the back of this ballot.

Let’s not forget about the engineers that got attacked and threatened over the 5G fears that came with the start of COVID too!
