A new digital bridge could change how Moldovans claim benefits after working abroad, with bureaucracy set to become less of an obstacle.
The Moldovan government has approved a draft decision on the country’s participation in the Electronic Exchange of Social Security Information System. This is an important step toward the country’s future connection to European digital infrastructure.

The European system enables the fast, secure, and standardized exchange of data between social security institutions in participating countries. Its implementation is expected to simplify cooperation between Moldovan authorities and the relevant institutions of European Union member states.
How the social data system will help Moldovan citizens
Once the mechanism is introduced, applications for pensions, social assistance, and other benefits will be processed more quickly. This will primarily benefit citizens who have worked or are working in European Union countries and are entitled to social security.
Electronic data exchange will reduce bureaucracy and make it easier for our citizens who work or have worked in European Union countries to exercise their right to social security.

The approved draft defines the responsibilities of the institutions involved in exchanging information and also provides for the creation of a national component of the system on the MConnect interoperability platform.
The national component will enable data to be exchanged between Moldovan institutions and the social security authorities of participating countries in compliance with personal data protection requirements.
Connecting to the European system
The implementation of electronic social data exchange will take place in stages. The work schedule will be coordinated with the European Commission, taking Moldova’s progress toward joining the European Union into account.
The new system is expected to make it faster, more transparent, and less bureaucratic for citizens with ties to several European countries to receive social benefits.
