The Finnish Border Guard has identified the type of drone that was discovered on Tuesday on the coast of the Gulf of Finland near Porvoo. According to preliminary information, the drone is believed to be of Russian origin.

Based on a preliminary visual inspection, the agency determined that it is likely a “Geoscan 701” unmanned aerial vehicle. This drone is manufactured by the Russian company “Geoscan.”

The agency clarified that this model is used by both government and civilian entities, and at this stage, “it is impossible to determine the drone’s purpose, country of origin, or the entity operating it.”

The Border Guard Service continues to investigate the circumstances under which the drone entered Finnish territory. In addition, authorities are determining where and how the state border was crossed.
