Energy Fuels UUUU reported a wider loss in the second quarter of 2026 as higher operating expenses and costs related to its ambitious expansion initiatives weighed on profitability. While the company continues to strengthen its position across uranium, rare earth elements and heavy mineral sands, its growing investments are raising questions about the timeline for achieving sustainable earnings.
Energy Fuels reported a net loss of $33.4 million, or 13 cents per share, for the second quarter, wider than the loss of $21.8 million, or 10 cents per share, incurred in the year-ago quarter. The company’s operating loss increased to $30.6 million from $26.2 million in the prior-year quarter.
The wider loss was due to higher overall operating expenses despite increased revenues in the quarter. Notably, second-quarter 2026 revenues surged 496% year over year to $25.1 million, driven by higher uranium sales volumes and realized prices.
Costs applicable to revenues surged 192% to $10.7 million on higher uranium volumes sold, partially offset by lower weighted average cost per pound of uranium sold.
Meanwhile, selling, general and administrative expenses rose 30% year over year to $19.2 million. Standby costs surged 61% year over year to $2.87 million due to higher permitting activities at Roca Honda and Whirlwind and increased maintenance activities at Nichols Ranch.
The company also incurred $10.7 million in transaction and integration-related costs during the quarter, primarily associated with its planned acquisitions and strategic expansion initiatives. These investments reflect Energy Fuels’ efforts to build an integrated critical minerals platform but are likely to continue weighing on near-term profitability.
For the first six months of 2026, Energy Fuels reported a net loss of $44.6 million compared with a loss of $48.2 million in the prior-year period. Despite the continued losses, the company’s balance sheet remains strong, providing it with financial flexibility to fund its growth initiatives. As of June 30, 2026, Energy Fuels had $58.4 million in cash and cash equivalents and $878.3 million in current marketable securities. UUUU also held approximately 1,640,000 pounds of uranium finished goods inventory and approximately 905,000 pounds of vanadium finished goods inventory.
Energy Fuels’ widening quarterly loss underscores the financial challenges of simultaneously expanding uranium production and building a broader rare earth supply chain. Although robust revenue growth and a strong liquidity position provide important support, the company’s ability to control expenses and convert its growth investments into sustainable profits will remain a key focus for investors.
