Starr and media company Goalhanger have launched The Risk Briefing, an executive event series examining geopolitical developments and their effect on corporate risk. The invitation-only sessions will be held at Lloyd’s of London for Starr’s brokers, clients and business partners.

The first event is scheduled for 24 September, with additional sessions planned for 2027. Guests will be able to attend at Lloyd’s or participate online from other markets.

The series has been developed with Goalhanger’s The Rest Is Politics and The Rest Is Politics US. Other journalists, political commentators and specialists from the Goalhanger network will participate in discussions with senior business and insurance executives.

Sessions will examine geopolitical tensions, conflict and changes in relationships between major powers. Discussions will also consider how political developments affect companies, financial markets and the risks insurers are asked to cover.

Each Risk Briefing will operate as a closed-door, off-the-record forum. Starr and Goalhanger said the format is intended to allow participants to discuss geopolitical developments more openly than they might in public events.

The partnership gives Starr another forum for discussing risks originating outside traditional insurance markets. The insurer operates across specialty lines where political instability and economic uncertainty influence client exposures and underwriting decisions.

“The Risk Briefing is a natural extension of what Goalhanger does every day through our podcasts, helping audiences understand the political and geopolitical forces shaping the world around them,” said Tom Whiter, General Manager – Politics & Current Affairs at Goalhanger. He said the partnership brings those discussions directly to senior executives assessing business decisions.

Stuart Scott, President of UK and EME at Starr, said many risks faced by clients originate in wider political and economic developments rather than within the insurance market itself. He said understanding those forces and considering different perspectives supports underwriting and business decision-making.

The risks our clients face don’t begin in the insurance market, they begin in the world around us. That The Risk Briefing will provide a forum focused on issues affecting Starr’s clients and their exposures.

For Starr, the Lloyd’s series places geopolitical discussion alongside its insurance relationships with brokers and corporate clients. The initial September event will establish the format before The Risk Briefing returns with further editions during 2027.
