After a little debate with my friend, I’d like to know Swiss Reddit’s thoughts on this (it’s a 20 Minuten article, I know, I know) Link is also in the comments

  1. Sounds funny, but the the name “bitches and cool boys” (sorry for wrong wording), sounds a bitt off…

  2. In my opinion, it would have been a bit weird if it had been a teachers’ initiative. According to the article, it is an idea of the students, whereas I think it is right and important to make something like this possible on request and to discuss the topic on this theme day. It seems to be a topic that concernes the students.

Yes, the motto is a bit strange. Maybe the teachers should have intervened there, and I hope they will prepare the whole theme day properly.

  3. The article is to shallow to for an opinion on what happend. Generaly speaking tho, wearing someone esles shoes for a day helps generate empathy and understanding, so i think it was a good idea.

The title was however a bad choice.

    Edit: motto not title

  4. Nothing wrong with it other than the ridiculous title they came up with. “Tussis und coole Jungs” really??

  5. A couple of decades ago it would probably be seen as something innocent like carnival, but in the current climate it’s a touchy subject for a lot of people. Personally I definitely don’t want to see some things that are happening in American and English schools happening here as well, such as drag shows and the like.

  6. The only wierd thing is that this happened at a primary school. Mottowoche in your Maturjahr is so much fun and gender swap day is a super cool event that always does really well. Always a good mood in school, not wierd at all.

  7. The title is misleading. They are not practicing anything. It was a themed school day that the kids wished to have. They also chose the topics. Those are 4th graders. That probably sounds like fun in their minds and that it all that matters. They are too young for themed days like “anything but backpack” or similar.
I’ve been a nanny for many kids and in that age they like to dress up. I’ve seen boys in princess dresses and girls in their dads shirts. That doesn’t mean that they don’t have an understanding for different genders or that their thinking is too stereotypical. Let them be kids.

  8. I think this is inappropriate for elementary school, even if it was the kids’ idea. What happened to learning how to read, write and doing basic math? If the teenagers at the end of compulsory school or grammar school want to do it, all the power to them.

  9. Idk, the parents and kids liked it and the disguises were discussed in the class itself and accepted. I feel it has nothing to do with “queers” but only with kids playing disguises. Let them be? I think the queer stuff is more brought into the schools by the “right”, than the left. Just another battlefields to take the focus away from the real problems.

In Switzerland, we are far from having drag queens reading stories to children and I feel somehow the right opinion MAGA! TRUMP! GUNS! CHURCH! from the USA is swapping over to us, even though it’s different. But it generates clicks, I guess?

  10. It depends on the age of the children themselves, Children have multiple phases they go through (we had too) where you grow your mentality and psyche.

  11. It’s probably pretty harmless.

Im more confused by the discussion around it, as some people really seem to think roleplaying gender stereotypes will somehow help get rid of traditional gender roles.

but hey… in the end I dont really care

  12. My husband did this when he was in secondary here in the mid 80’s. This is nothing new. He says that was the day he learned to have respect for women, who walk around in thin pantyhose during the dead of winter, and very uncomfortable high heels without breaking our ankles. LOL He never realized how torturous some of our clothing options are until then. He said he’s thankful that men’s clothes are built with comfort in mind, for the most part.

  13. I think wearing someone else’s shoes for a day is a great idea. But the execution with the title might be the worst execution I have seen in a while…

  14. If the title would be correct, then I would write a letter I assume. Because “getting educated on gender swaps” is definitely nothing my children should have to learn at public school. This is just confusing at best. But I anyways read that 20min is lying, which suits this “schundblatt” right. I really hope they go bankrupt soon, alongside watson and other “click”-financed-article” media.

  15. Yesterday I overheard some boys talking: „Bro, Do you get that pussy cycle stuff? I just know they need tampons.“

I think this schools teens had a good idea.

  16. This is not anything new, from what the caption of the picture in the article and other comments I gather that the kids themselves asked for this. I had similar things when I was in 5th grade and later in 9th grade where we had a themed week where we choose different themes for each day and both times there was the genderswapping day. Its pretty fun to dress up and see how others see your gender in an over the top way.

Now to be honest I dont know how children who arent cis feel about it tho…

  17. Oh no they dressed up in other clothes for fun. Even the Tussis und coole Jungs seems to be a deliberate exaggeration of gender stereotypes. I don’t see the problem.

  18. the only thing weird about any of this is the reaction of the people who are supposed to be the adults. children like to play and imagine and fortunately they don’t have the stupid boundaries (yet) ingrained into their heads. the headline is fine as well. let the kids play. adults should stop limiting childrens creativity. this isn’t going to confuse them or be bad for them or anything. I don’t understand why people get so wound up about this sort of thing. and no these definitely are not topics which should solely be discussed at home – that’s why stereotypes are perpetuated so much.

  19. i’m going to school in reussbuel kanton luzern. The students finishing this year always do a “Mottowoche” this year the made something close to that. I think it’s not bad. Just because you use some stereotypes doesn’t mean you think they are true. in the end its just dressing up
