Slovakia condemned a Russian strike on Kyiv that hit an SBU building near its embassy’s consular section and summoned Russia’s ambassador for an explanation, Foreign Minister Juraj Blanár said on Sept. 5.
According to him, the consular section of the Slovak Embassy in Kyiv has been operating on a limited basis because of the security situation, and no one was inside the building at the time of the Russian attack.
Following the strike, Blanar ordered the Russian ambassador to Slovakia to be summoned. He also called on Moscow to refrain from actions that could endanger the lives and safety of civilians.
At the same time, the Slovak minister called on both sides to avoid further escalation, referring to a “peaceful settlement.” The attack, however, was carried out by Russia as part of its full-scale war against Ukraine.
Earlier, on Sept. 4, Russian forces struck a Security Service of Ukraine building in central Kyiv. Ukraine’s Foreign Ministry called the attack a serious escalation and evidence of Moscow’s unwillingness to pursue diplomacy.
The Security Service of Ukraine, for its part, said the response to the Russian strike would be painful for the enemy.
