Pope Leo XIV has expressed hope that the talks held in recent days in Russia and Ukraine, with the mediation of U.S. presidential envoys, will produce results.
He said this in a post on X on Sunday, September 6, according to Ukrinform.
“My heart is united with the suffering of the people of Ukraine, who have lived in anguish and fear for years. I renew my appeal to put an end to the violence, halt the destruction, and open hearts to dialogue and peace,” the Pope said.
The pontiff also expressed hope that the efforts undertaken in recent days to resume negotiations on ending the Russian-Ukrainian war would create room for diplomacy.
“I hope that the efforts undertaken in recent days to resume negotiations will bear concrete fruit and make room for diplomacy,” the Pope said.

He also called on people to pray that concord may prevail in every conflict around the world.
As reported, U.S. presidential envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner arrived in Kyiv on September 6.
On September 5, Witkoff and Kushner visited Moscow, where they met with Russian ruler Vladimir Putin. According to media reports, the meeting lasted more than three hours.
