The future of energy does not lie in power plants as we know them today, but in homes. Although fluctuating prices on the short-term electricity market may seem impossible to predict reliably, a new player on the Czech market – Scandinavian company Emaldo – shows how smart batteries and artificial intelligence can spark a genuine energy revolution.
Electricity prices are becoming increasingly unpredictable for Czech households. In July alone this year, the average market price was significantly higher than a year earlier – by almost 12 percent on weekdays, when the median stood at EUR 96 per megawatt-hour (CZK 2361). At weekends, the increase was even more dramatic: prices rose by 90 percent year on year. For comparison, the median was just EUR 72 (CZK 1771) during the same period last year.
Greater price stability throughout the day is expected to be supported in the future by wider energy storage options. Home batteries can balance differences between electricity generation, consumption and price. They charge when electricity is cheap or there is a surplus in the grid, and the household then uses the stored energy when prices rise. This is where Emaldo offers a solution – a technology that goes beyond conventional storage and makes energy management considerably easier for households.
“The Czech Republic is among the markets where battery storage and aggregation blocks can make a significant contribution to modernising the energy sector. In the global market, Emaldo is seeing growing interest in solutions that strengthen energy self-sufficiency while helping address power outages and price fluctuations in electricity supply – challenges that all of Europe is facing today,” says Martin Šebesta, Emaldo’s regional manager for the Czech Republic.
Emaldo brings more than just a home battery to Czechia. Its Power Store is a complete AI-enhanced system that can store energy from solar panels or purchase it directly on the market when it is cheapest. Thanks to smart artificial intelligence, households are connected into so-called virtual power plants – aggregation blocks that operate as a single large resource.

Aggregation blocks behave similarly to an actual power plant and help balance the transmission system. When electricity is scarce and its price rises, the system sells part of the stored energy at a more favourable price. Conversely, during periods of surplus, it uses its capacity to store electricity and purchase cheap energy. Everything takes place automatically and without the owner’s intervention. Management is handled by a smart AI chip that assesses both the market situation and the household’s needs. The owner thus saves costs while strengthening their energy independence.
“In practice, this may mean that a family house with an 8 kWp photovoltaic system and an Emaldo battery can save approximately CZK 40,000 per year on electricity by joining a virtual power plant. Actual results vary depending on battery size and consumption, but the model shows a faster return on investment than conventional systems, by 50% on average,” said Martin Šebesta.
The advantage is clear: households do not have to monitor electricity prices or manually switch appliances in complex ways. The system does this automatically and uses stored energy precisely when electricity is most expensive on the market. Users simply watch as their home storage system reduces their bills. And before the battery joins a virtual power plant and starts actively “trading”, the owner receives a CZK 2,000 monthly bonus from Emaldo for up to one year.
Emaldo has also considered the practical side. The system can be installed in new-build and existing homes, works with different types of solar systems and offers backup power for the most important appliances. The entire solution is also modular – battery capacity can be gradually expanded according to the family’s needs.
The Emaldo Power Store system itself uses modern lithium iron phosphate (LFP) batteries with a capacity of 5.12 kWh, expandable to 15.3 kWh – and, if necessary, even up to 133 kWh. With charging and discharging efficiency above 97%, it ranks among the best on the market. The solution includes a 10.8 kVA hybrid inverter with backup power capability, allowing users to protect their most important appliances even during a grid outage.

The battery can also be used without an on-site photovoltaic power plant – in that case, it charges directly from the grid during low-tariff periods, and the household then consumes the stored energy when electricity is more expensive. Thanks to 4G connectivity and built-in artificial intelligence, the device can be easily connected to the internet and monitored remotely in an app. Emaldo also provides a ten-year warranty for both the battery and inverter, underlining the long-term reliability of the entire solution.
Last but not least, the Emaldo product boasts a typically Scandinavian minimalist design. It is not merely a technical device, but also a modern feature of the home. It does not disrupt the appearance of the interior and, thanks to its compact dimensions, is suitable even where space is limited.
“Installation is flexible – the battery can be placed in the living area of the house, a utility room or even outdoors. Thanks to high-quality workmanship and durable materials, it is designed to withstand various conditions without affecting its functionality or service life. The result is a solution that not only saves energy and ensures self-sufficiency, but also naturally fits into the home environment,” Martin Šebesta emphasises.
Emaldo’s entry into the Czech market also brings new opportunities. For customers, it is an opportunity to become pioneers of this technology, while Emaldo is looking for installation partners among businesses. They will receive not only a one-off payment for completing a project, but also long-term passive income – through the bonus programme, they will receive 10 % of the profit from every aggregation block (1.2 MW) they manage to connect. And this will continue for ten years.
Emaldo shows that the energy sector can operate more intelligently, more cheaply and closer to people. Households gain control over both their electricity consumption and price without having to deal with complex technologies. By linking artificial intelligence, battery storage and aggregation blocks, anyone can become part of a modern virtual power plant.
