Located in Lisbon’s Avenidas Novas district, near Arco do Cego, it’s a very different setting from the city’s busy tourist areas. Here, you’ll find a quieter neighbourhood with a small park nearby – an ideal place to slow down and enjoy a coffee.

MAS opened in 2025, founded by Sia Fung and Sam Chan, who wanted to create a café centred around speciality coffee while offering something a little different from the usual coffee experience. Sia is originally from Guangdong, China; she came to Lisbon to study Marketing Management but decided to put her studies on hold to open MAS.

The café has outdoor seating, perfect for sunny Lisbon mornings, while inside you’ll find two floors.

Before ordering, you can also take a look at the selection of coffee beans on offer, which is a nice touch if you’re interested in trying something different. The menu goes well beyond coffee too, with a range of egg dishes, sandwiches, fluffy pancakes and cakes such as my favourite tiramisu!

We both ordered a coffee with milk, but before making them, the barista asked if we wanted them hot or cold. We couldn’t decide, so we ordered one of each. Both tasted great, but if I had to choose, I’d still stick with a hot coffee. I also loved the unicorn in the milk foam – it was such a nice surprise and almost too pretty to drink.

If you want to discover a different side of the city whilst enjoying one of Europe’s top-rated specialty coffee shops, it’s definitely worth including on your list.
