Why does the tax payer pay if they have plenty of wealth?
And they weren’t wanted there either.
You wanted them to row over on a banana boat?
Not really surprising – what is surprising is how we still put up with this archaic level of BS!
But think of all the money they bring in tourism

Exceptionally good value

I’m sure they had a lovely time. Worth every penny. And all the security costs. And vehicles. And accommodation. And food. Etc.
So……. They went on this tour only to realise that no one fucking wanted them there because those countries decided the monarchy is a bunch of shit, ergo they acheived nothing, and it still cost nearly a 1/4 of £1M…… Something’s wrong with this picture. I’ll get there eventually.
It would be interesting to know how much other visits cost. I’d think Joe Biden going anywhere would cost a small fortune. Boris could probably be thrown in the back of transit and arrive looking like he always does, maybe better. And why couldn’t Kate and Will just used zoom?
The royal family has a personal wealth that would make Scrooge McDuck blush. They should be paying for their own damn trips.
And you all want to be ruled by a monarch?
Sigh.
Google how much the Crown estate put into the public purse for financial year 21/22
£312.7m
How much is this years Sovereign Grant?
£86.3 million
Despite the misleading headline the Royal family pays for itself, plus Queenie and Charlie both voluntarily pay income tax on their private income (e. g. Revenue from Sandringham and the Duchy of Cornwall and Lancaster) and Queenie goes one step further by paying CGT. They’ve been doing that since 1992/3
All this is a matter of public record for those who want to break out of their circle-jerk and educate themselves. Whilst the Sovereign Grant doesn’t cover security costs (highest estimates are c. £100m) the revenue from the Crown estate, plus private taxesstill exceeds the likely total public purse expenditure.
Working class people who couldn’t afford to go to Carribean are paying for their vacations and luxuries.
It has been like that since time immemorial. That is the reason why we should abolish the monarchy.
The royals really pissed off the tories didn’t they
oh, look, flying costs money
As little as that? I’m surprised….
Correct me if I’m wrong but aren’t security costs excluded when calculating the Royals expenditure? It seems to be a big hole in the finances if correct as surely it’s one of the biggest costs with their travel.
One explanation worth noting, none of the money from the citizen taxpayers goes in anyway directly to the Crown’s direct expenditures.
The Monarchy holds the Crown Estate, which is the original estates belonging to the Royal Demesne, that’s placed under a semi-public ownership, wherefore 25% of the revenues are placed as a sovereign grant, a public account that includes all the Crown’s expenditure and funding, for the purposes such as travel and communications, maintenance of the palaces, and other such, and 75% is returned to the treasury (which is to say, they somewhat have a fixed budget).
In which case in reality you could say that we all get a bit of the Crown’s money but there’s no return on the other way around.
The Monarchy has lost it’s true sovereign status and has become only a constitutional monarchy, hence it has also lost prime ownership over the lands and estates that belonged to it’s houses, rather they now belong to the public office, and that public office just happens to belong to the monarchy. So really the only argument that you can have is if there is a need for that particular public office, and whether we’d be better off if it was abolished.
Life changing money for most people. Makes me sick.
Value for money! Didn’t Liz Truss go to Moscow or somewhere for a day, achieved sod all except get an Instagram pic and it cost £500,000.
To be honest I thought it would cost more.
Isn’t he a millionaire? Why can’t he pay for a flight? His grandmother is literally money.
Does this mean I can claim my holiday back in my work expenses too?
We could used that money to pay for 11 minutes of EU membership instead

That’s nothing, we’ll be giving the Royals a pay rise of £27.3m – [article](https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2022-06-30/uk-to-pay-new-27-3-million-subsidy-to-royal-family-as-taxpayers-face-cost-of-living-squeeze). They didn’t have to strike or anything.
