As Labor Day gas prices soared — with costs hitting the highest-ever national average price for the holiday weekend — President Donald Trump made a bold prediction about the future.

As Americans are struggling with gas that’s clocking in at more than $4 a gallon, Trump insists the cost will drop not just to $3 a gallon — but under $2, a price not seen since the Covid-19 pandemic was raging and causing a massive drop in demand.

The magic time for cheaper gas will come when the United States is victorious in Iran, Trump declared in a Truth Social post Monday night:

Oil prices will drop precipitously, like everything else is dropping (but more!), when we WIN the war with Iran. Three Dollars a gallon, but ultimately, below Two Dollars a gallon. It will all happen quickly, and Iran will never have a Nuclear Weapon. MAGA! President DJT

The gas price prediction comes as Trump battles consistently dismal approval ratings, largely linked to high prices and the war in Iran.

The war in Iran began Feb. 28 with joint airstrikes between the United States and Israel and has left 18 American service members dead.

The unpopular conflict has now stretched beyond six months and shows no signs of abating despite efforts by the administration to down play the situation.

Vice President JD Vance, hosting the first White House briefing in 40 days last week, answered a question about when the conflict would end by declaring, “I wouldn’t call it a war.”

Trump himself declared the conflict “small potatoes” last week while talking to reporters in the Oval Office.

“I’ll tell you what, a lot of people don’t call it a war. I call it a military conflict because it’s small potatoes for us. It’s not a big thing,” Trump said. “We did Venezuela and we did this. In Venezuela, we lost nobody, and in this we lost 18 people, and in Vietnam you lost 100,000 people, and in other conflicts you lost tens of thousands of people.”

“I would say that it’s intermittent,” he added. “You know, we do intermittent strikes, so I heard what he said, and it was interesting because I think that there is a lot of truth. We are not fighting right now. There is no fighting. We are taking on a lot of oil. We control the Hormuz Strait. We control it very strongly.”
