A drowning was reported at Falls Lake on Monday afternoon.
The Wake County Sheriff’s Department responded around 2:30 p.m. to reports of a swimmer drowning near the 14600 block of Creedmoor Road, near Sandling Beach.
After a four-hour search, first responders recovered a 16-year-old male’s body from the lake.
WRAL’s Breaking News Tracker was at the lake and saw volunteers working with first responders to help search the beach for the missing teen.
Park officials told WRAL that a section of the beach was closed, but there were still many people swimming in the lake as crews searched the area in boats and on foot.
Multiple agencies responded to the call, including Wake County EMS, Northern Wake Fire Department, and Wake Forest Fire Department.
