The Warriors bandwagon has sprouted wings – with Air New Zealand putting on a special “Wahs Express” charter to carry 160 South Island supporters north for Saturday’s finals showdown with the Dolphins.
The national carrier will carry 160 supporters to Auckland, with $449 packages including the one-way flight and a Category One ticket to the match at Go Media Stadium.
Flight NZ1218 departs Ōtautahi Christchurch for Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland on September 12, at 12.35pm.
Air New Zealand chief commercial officer Scott Wilkinson said the airline expected seats to sell quickly.
“The mighty Warriors have given Kiwi fans plenty to believe in this season, and we know there are plenty of fans from Canterbury and the South Island who want to be there to support their team when it matters,” he said.
“So, we’re putting on the Wahs Express and giving 160 fans the chance to answer the call-up and get themselves into the stands.
“It’s crunch time and we know every bit of support counts. That’s why we’re calling on South Island fans to bring the noise.”
One NZ Warriors chief executive Cameron George said the club was grateful for the support.
“We’re so grateful to Air New Zealand for bringing their energy and passion to what’s such a huge day for our club, our fans and the whole country,” he said.
“Having the Wahs Express flying up from Christchurch adds another level of support for our boys as they take on the Dolphins.”
Air Chathams is also offering to fly Warriors fans to Auckland for Saturday night’s finals opener against the Dolphins, with the airline promising to get supporters to the game from Whakatāne or Whanganui.
