European Commissioner for Transport Apostolos Tzitzikostas has presented a major transport project linking Greece, Bulgaria and Romania at the Thessaloniki International Fair, BTA reported.
The road and rail corridor will create a new transport link between the Aegean and Black seas, Tzitzikostas told exhibitors at the fair. From Bucharest, it will continue westwards towards Western Europe and eastwards to Moldova and Ukraine, providing an alternative for passengers and freight to the route through the Bosphorus and Dardanelles.
Tzitzikostas said Bulgaria would play a key role in the corridor, connecting Greek ports with Romania and the wider European transport network. The project will be financed through European and national funds.
Greece, Bulgaria and Romania have already signed a memorandum on the North-South transport corridor.
