Denmark’s Holger Rune announced on Tuesday that he will return to competition next month, having been sidelined for nearly a year due to injury.

The 23-year-old former World No. 4 will make his comeback in Denmark’s Davis Cup tie against Bulgaria on September 18.

“I have great news… I will be coming back end of next week for the Davis Cup in Copenhagen,” said the now-world No. 133 in a video posted on Instagram.

“I’m thrilled… it’s been 11 months of hard work.

“I missed it so much. To be back playing and starting at home it’s just going to be beautiful, so see you guys the 18th September in Copenhagen for my first match.”

Rune has repeatedly postponed his playing return since rupturing his left Achilles tendon last October.

Initially, the 2022 Paris Masters winner had hoped to recover in time for the grass-court season.

But he eventually withdrew from Wimbledon, before also pulling out of the US Open.

“I want to come back better than before,” Rune told AFP in June.

“Coming back from an injury, I feel no pressure, really… I just want to go out there and enjoy myself, enjoy being back and try to be the biggest beast I can and deliver.”
