Clinging to a false narrative shows the essence of Brussels’ foreign policy, that they are still trying to serve the revolutionary scenario that was defeated in Georgia, therefore, Brussels must come out of these illusions, – the Speaker of the Parliament, Shalva Papuashvili, told journalists.
He assessed the statement of the Deputy Permanent Representative of the European Union to the UN, Michele Cervone d’Urso, that “the European Union is deeply concerned about the politically motivated use of the judicial system against civil society organizations in Georgia and the adoption of repressive measures.”
According to Shalva Papuashvili, this is slander.
“It is outrageous when such a platform is used to spread disinformation and lies. We should expose more and more on any platform when a representative of the European Union, another country or organization slanders the Georgian people, and this is slander. I responded to this issue on social media. Brussels is lost in its own false narrative. It cannot get out of the narrative that they tried to impose on Georgia and the world before and after the parliamentary elections 2 years ago, as if the elections in Georgia were rigged, as if police actions were taking place against peaceful protests in Georgia. All this has been shattered, all issues have been investigated. The verdicts have been handed down. We have seen 45 plea agreements and requests for pardon, where all these crimes are admitted. Now, clinging to this false narrative again shows the essence of Brussels’ foreign policy, they are still trying to serve the revolutionary scenario that was defeated in Georgia, therefore, Brussels must come out of these illusions. First of all, it must refuse aggressive rhetoric against Georgia. It is really worrying that we still hear such rhetoric against Georgia. It must also refuse to spread disinformation against Georgia. The way the European Union behaves in foreign policy, in particular, in relation to Georgia, contradicts common sense. So, all false statements, whether from the European Union or from any other country, will be exposed by our side,” Papuashvili said.
According to the Speaker of the Parliament, it was Brussels that incited the “storming of the presidential palace on October 4.”
“Do you remember the October 4 coup attempt, when the official spokesperson of Brussels, a few days before October 4, publicly expressed support for the pre-announced coup on October 4? This was a virtual “green light” for them to storm the Georgian presidential residence. Let us remind you that to date, no representative of Brussels, nor the EU ambassador, nor any representative of any country has publicly condemned the October 4 violent storming of the presidential palace. As a result, crimes were committed, people were imprisoned because they were incited and brought to barricades, and then they were abandoned in prison,” Papuashvili said.
The Deputy Permanent Representative of the European Union to the UN, Michele Cervone d’Urso, stated at the UN Human Rights Council session that the European Union is deeply concerned by the politically motivated use of the judiciary and the adoption of repressive measures against civil society organizations in Georgia.
According to him, the European Union reiterates Georgia’s commitment to protecting fundamental freedoms and calls for the repeal or substantial revision of recently adopted legislation that undermines international human rights standards.
