EU lawmakers back gas, nuclear energy as sustainable

  1. Overall a good desicion. Nuclear power industry gets money for modular NPP’s and especially France for NPP refurbishment.

I don’t like the nat gas inclusion, but luckily the requirements for the plants are very strict. So basically they need to be CHP or even have carbon capture. And they need to use renewable or low-carbon gases by 2035. I hope there will be some synergy benefits from nat gas infra when moving to hydrogen in large scale.

  2. Because for some reason it’s never mentioned, gas plants have to:

    – replace coal
    – emit a maximum of 270g/co2 per kWh
    – receive a permit before 2030
    – have a plan to switch to hydrogen or other low-carbon fuel by 2035

    to fall under this.

It’s so strict in fact in the end none might actually end up qualifiying.

  3. Before anyone gets their _this must be Germanys fault pitchforks out_:

France and central European countries like Poland were in favor of labeling nuclear __and__ gas as ‘green’ while countries like Germany, Austria, Luxembourg were against it.

  4. Yea, let’s just define a fossil fuel as “sustainable”, what a fucking way to solve climate change.

If you don’t like something, petition to change the word for it.

That seems to be the current way of dealing with absolutely everything, and I’m sick of this stupidity.
