This is one of the least surprising news stories of the year.
When he died and I wrote a post saying the family were grifters, *I actually got a death threat from someone.*
I’ll bet that whatever solicitors and advisors helped them set this whole thing up are dodgy as fuck.
This isn’t something a family will find themselves easily doing, although no doubt there is unscrupulous behaviour there too.
The weird fetishisation of Tom Moore’s wonderful act of charity by the mass media followed by the relentless monetisation of, lets face it, a very elderly, doddering and disabled old man by his surviving family has been both a continuing source of disappointment but very little surprise for me.
Reading the article it sounds as though the family have set up a private (for profit) company that owns the IP and trademarks for the Captain Tom name. The charity (set up by the same people) would have to pay that company to use the Captain Tom name. Whilst this is probably legal it’s dodgy AF and I’m glad this is being investigated.

So happy this is coming to light. Scamming an entire nation and making a moral negative of an old man that was just trying his best to help charity has got to be the lowest of the low.
I like to think he wasn’t in on it but I’ve got no clue in reality. I guess it’ll come out in the wash.
Its now such a shame that that shambles bears his name.
Tom Moore himself is unimpeachable, leaving aside the weirdness of a 99 year old walking to raise a grand for a publicly-funded service, but the reaction to him was a sure sign that the country had lost its mind.
There was a promotion to Colonel, a best-selling book, a No. 1 single, New Year fireworks dedicated to him, a knighthood, an RAF flypast and to top it all off, a holiday to the Caribbean, during a few pandemic, when he could have been getting the vaccine… As if Covid didn’t exist!
Such a farcical series of events deserves an ending with the daughter locked up.
Unfortunately it seems there is a big problem with charities in general. I know an accountant who specialises in charity accountancy, the stories she has, well lets just say I cancelled all my charity subscriptions and do not donate anymore. It’s a sad state of affairs.
One glance at her own webpage should tell you all you need to know – ‘a leader in every field’ Jesus wept
That money was just resting in his daughter’s account.
Disgrace and shocking behaviour
He was raising funds for the NHS which was at breaking point due to Covid and in the midst of the pandemic someone advised the old boy it would be a good idea to get on a plane and fly for hours to a foreign country (again, in the midst of a pandemic) which was killing people of his age. Seriously. The mind boggles.
Wouldn’t be surprised if they start parading his corpse around
Literally no one could have predicted this.
No one.
Except all the people who actually said what the fuck was going on with this weird worship and exploitation of an old man.
Everyone who lapped this nonsense up from the beginning were just a bunch of sheep.
Let’s just hope it doesn’t let the do nothings make progress with smearing charity as a whole.
Honestly its just sad.
Everything, everywhere, every time, there’s always some selfish arsehole grubbing, grifting and swindling for money behind the scenes of every story and every situation and every charity.
Its the fact this one wasn’t surprising that is the saddest thing.
I recall seeing a news interview with the family quite early on in the fundraising, and wondering why the daughter was wearing a t-shirt with a corporate logo on it (that sort of stuff does not happen by accident). Lo and behold, when I look up the company named in the logo, it was her and her husband’s business venture. What made me suspicious is how this company was very present within all the fundraising stuff (it was also cited on the fundraiser page). Everything would have been far less sus if the name of the family company was nowhere near and of the publicity surrounding the fundraiser etc. I don’t doubt that all the money raised by Tom was given to charity, but there was no need for them to milk the publicity around it for promoting their company
Good. Many worthy causes seem to attract grifters.
Harry Leslie Smith’s son must be watching with interest. How many different fundraisers tried to monetise his dad? How long did the identity theft last?
String the lot of them up!
This is why euthanasia is illegal in this country. You bet 80% of elderly would be pushed for a little inheritance
Captain Tom’s Foundation investigation, Prince Charles personally accepting millions of pounds in Fortnam & Mason shopping bags, Queen paying an accused sex offender’s legal Bills, the Prime Minister (then Foreign Secretary) receiving blow jobs at work. Queen and Prince Charles getting laws amended to suit thier lifestyle and estates, almost the entire Tory Party receiving money from Russia . . . .

You only have to look very slightly under the facade to see that his country is as deeply, deeply corrupt as any tin-pot dictatorship you would find in Africa.
He was better than his family.
There will be a few other charities /subsidiary “partners” suddenly shitting it pending this case being run.
It’s quite scary how many “charities” exist for the purpose of paying for someone’s lifestyle.
These charities ultimately undo any good work from genuine causes.
Who cares, it was all a scam anyway to stop nurses from demanding extra pay, much easier to spend some money on a statue than to give every nurse in the NHS a pay rise, cheaper too And the NHS charity The money went to wasn’t for the doctors or nurses either.
Not to worry people. Considering the benefactors are a white, they’ll get a slap on the wrist if anything.

That daughter deserves whatever she gets.
