Really feel bad for them but the money is almost the least of the issue. There doesn’t seem to be any attempts to make the people responsible pay a penny though.
The liquidation of the company that owned the quarries ought to be looked at and the liquidation officers and the solicitors involved and the companys the old board of directors and owners are now involved with etc etc.
Hard to argue they’re wrong
Nothing but whinging.
I really don’t think a new house for 30k is bad at all, I know it’s 30k that they shouldn’t have to spend, but they are getting a brand new house instead of a 10 year old house or whatever and there seems to be acknowledgement of this at all. Taxpayers really can’t afford this, enough is enough, extend your mortgage or sue someone else for the rest.
Anyone saying they don’t deserve the redress, why should taxpayers pay etc..remember this could just be the tip of the iceberg
Imagine it was your house, what do you deserve?
Who know what will be next, pyrite in Dublin, Mica in Donegal, Mayo etc.
Poor regulations caused these issues
The new bill is a disgrace, so many flaws with it, even the previous one was better than this shambles!
This is exactly what taxpayers is for to support people in need
I get why people think I can’t afford a house, why should someone in Donegal get a free one..they aren’t, they have already paid for it!
The top ups required to build a replacement house may seem very little to those in Dublin, but remember the salary in Donegal are almost 40% less than the national average!
Many people would be happy with the 90% if they were allowed to build a smaller house and just spend the 90% but this isn’t an option.
Not everyone can get a top up on their mortgage, some of these people are pensioners now or have reduced incomes as they have taken time off to have kids or whatever.
Outside the box thinking is what is required here, money is only factor.
Where is the labour for all these rebuilds? What takes priority..houses already uninhabitable or those where an outer leaf replacement could save the house?
Where do people live in the meantime.
I seen a parish church is offering land for 60 log cabins which an Irish American investor is supplying which could be used a temporary accommodation for people during the rebuilds..this is the type of solutions we need!
Fast track free planning applications are needed, maybe have a book of 20 designs and if any of those designs are picked for a replacement dwelling, it’s approved with no planning fees (subject to sense checking..ie same size or smaller than the original etc)
People can’t even get an engineer to do the testing to get on the scheme never mind start fixing the problem. Even if people have the €6k for the fees, there is no availability. A company in Derry is doing the testing for people selling or looking peace of mind for about €2k but these results aren’t accepted by the council for the redress scheme.
The whole thing is a shambles
I drove round Inishown last night and it’s a sad sight, newish empty homes, mobile homes beside these lovely family homes as the house in uninhabitable.

Estates with cracks everywhere
Single houses with cracks
Extensions with cracks
Redress signs in every car, shop, house.
Probably, our government hates Irish people.
