Pedro Acosta tempered expectations after setting the fastest time in both Friday sessions of the MotoGP Austrian Grand Prix.
Pedro Acosta had a perfect Friday at the Red Bull Ring for the MotoGP Austrian Grand Prix . Managing to tame the cool morning conditions and then the more favorable afternoon weather, he propelled KTM to the top of the timesheets on every track outing and established himself as the man to beat this weekend.
“I’m satisfied, ” he told the media after the tests. “ The bike was working pretty well. It’s a good start. I’m quite happy. It’s true that we’re still struggling in turn 3, with that long right-hander, and then in the long left-handers of turns 6 and 7. We need to improve because Brad Binder was quite impressive in those sections. We’ll try. ”
After such a day, it’s easy to think this is the perfect opportunity for Pedro Acosta, still searching for his first MotoGP victory. Winning for KTM, in his final year with the manufacturer, would have all the makings of a Hollywood script. However, the Shark of Mazarron prefers to temper the press’s comments: “It’s only Friday, mate! I don’t know. Let’s see how Ducati and Aprilia progress tomorrow. Aldeguer is fast, Ogura too. Last year, Bezzecchi was very fast as well . So, no pressure. Let’s see what happens. “
To defend himself against the progress of his rivals, Acosta nevertheless identifies significant room for improvement. It remains to be seen how far he can push the limits of his RC16 to try and qualify well. For the rest of the weekend, namely the two races, he will also need to master tire management on a circuit where the strong acceleration puts a lot of stress on the rear tires.
