MILWAUKEE —

They started their business in their own kitchen and are now bringing Filipino-inspired sweet treats every Sunday to the Shorewood Farmers Market.

Ube MKE is a child-owned small business run by two Filipino siblings, Miles and Zelda Quimpo.

Miles and Zelda sell cookies, brownies, and muffins made with ube ingredients, which come from purple yams native to the Philippines and Southeast Asia. They also have new items on their menu, including calamansi loaf and mini Bundt cakes.

“Me and my sister get most of the money,” Miles said.

Miles and Zelda’s father, Mike, says he and his family moved to Milwaukee last year to start Ube MKE.

“We noticed there weren’t too many Filipino businesses,” Mike said. “And so, we decided to start our own so that we can share the food and the culture with the people of Milwaukee.”

Miles and Mike shared their story with 12 News’ Lakyra Banks on 12 News This Morning. Learn more about Ube MKE in the video above and on their website HERE.
