I live in the US and I would like to go to a German university, it seems like there are some additional requirements I must hit on my High School Diploma. I was using the [DAAD admission checker](https://www.daad.de/en/study-and-research-in-germany/plan-your-studies/admission-database/) tool to figure out what I need to get done. When it ask if it includes all “academic units”, what quantifies an academic unit? Is an academic unit the same as a semester long course? I know this questions seems dumb, but I would like to clarify.

Probably a year. Only requiring 1-1.5 years of math, for example, makes no sense.
