UK to Allow Fukushima Food Product Imports

  1. Don’t get what y’all complaining about, this will be really helpful for those moments where the fridge light is on the blink.

  2. He looks like someone with a learning disability off for a day out with his carer and someone’s just asked him if he’s having a nice time.

  3. Japan has been massively proactive in getting Fukushima cleaned up, you can see what they’ve done online, so I’m not overly worried about food coming from here. If it was the other way round and it was Japan accepting food from a UK area like Windscale, THEN I’d have a raised eyebrow or two.

  4. Stop trying to support protectionism with rubbish headlines, especially when we have sewage in our waterways that nothing is being done about, compared to how much time and money has been spent by Japan on cleaning up Fukushima

  5. As the article states: 27 of 54 countries that initially rejected it, have since rescinded their rejections.

Another piece that may assuage your feelings towards this: they’ve set a high bar to cross. 100 kg/kg, for comparison its 1000/1250 in the uk/us so there’s more chance our own food is more radioactive if you can trust their tests. If you can’t though, there’s nothing that will change your mind and you’ll have to pay attention shopping

  6. Most people commenting seem to be complete morons. Fukushima clean-up was a massive and successful operation. All goods going to the consumer market have to succeed on checks against radioactive material, and the kicker, to all those Europhiles whinging about Brexit, the EU cleared Fukushima produce for import in 2021.

  7. This is pure sensationalism preying on people’s fear of nuclear power and radiation. Years and years of fear mongering has led people to think that the government has sold us out for dangerous imports when that isn’t the case. Fukushima is being cleaned up, the risks are very low and the accumulation of tritiated water will be safely dealt with by dilution and dumping in the sea. Whipping up fear without looking at the facts is negligent at best and at worst pushing an agenda.

I dont like Boris but this is a non-issue. Your average banana has radioactive potassium, you’ll probably get more of a dose on a flight to Spain and back than eating a years worth of Fukushima fish.

  8. As long as it is thoughly checked. I have no issue. They literally scraped the land of top soil and replaced it. Fukishma was mostly leaking in to the sea. So once the land was decontaminated it should be safe. Japan went to great meaures to restore the land.

  9. Shouted this to my mate on the loo, and he said, “are you taking the piss” and didn’t believe me.

Johnson is going around the world doing anything he can to become anything other than a total joke and failing badly, is there no insanity he is not capable of?

  10. Seems to be some misinformation regarding how the EU eased its food imports for this area. They infact implemented additional checks on certain food groups and relaxed checks to nothing on only three food groups mostly mushrooms and bamboo. Citing the information won’t be clear until 2023 when they could renew the deal.

Three food groups contained heightened levels of Cesium for the US but were below the FDAs concern level. FDA approves food with lead in it so that doesn’t sway me.

  11. Fuckin hell this thread has blown up !

Boris Johnson looks like a man who’s overslept, in his clothes in a field, & after being helped is being asked if he’s ok.

  12. Misleading title:

“Farm products including mushrooms from Fukushima, Miyagi and seven other prefectures had been subject to Britain’s import restrictions, with these items needing proof of having passed a check for radioactive materials, according to the Japanese government.”

So we already allow food imports as long as they meet certain criteria. The change is that those imports will no longer need to meet those particualr criteria.

  13. #WE WON’T BE EATING RADIOACTIVE SUSHI. CALM DOWN.

The amount of people thinking that the UK will be flooded with poison is insane
