hello I’m not sure if I’m able to post anything like this here I’m a football manager player from England looking for a team to manage in Bulgaria to stop ludogorets dominance. I want to start in the 2nd tier and work my way up and wanted to get some suggestions on who I could be.

  1. What’s up man, I play FM religiously 🙂 always on my 2nd monitor while I work.

My favorite teams to manage in Bulgaria are (aside from CSKA Sofia, my own team)

    1. Dunav Ruse – old team with tons of history, in one of the most beautiful towns in Bulgaria, along the danube river. Recently had a run in the elite, went bankrupt very hard, started as amateurs, currently back in the pros in the 2nd league with an ENTIRELY youth team (below 20 years of age). Quite a challenge, but very cool. They still pack their stadium and had huge attendance even in the amateurs. Awesome colors (navy blue) and a cool nickname – the dragons! In FM21 and 22 I believe you need to edit them into B group but its extremely simple, just replace another team with them, they already have a squad and everything and if you have the in-game editor just sign them all to pro contracts
    2. Spartak Varna – I like Varna a lot and its the 3rd biggest city in Bulgaria while having average success at football. Also they just got into A group in real life and might have a new stadium built, so you might even look up their season if you get into it.
    3. Hebar – just love the logo and they also recently got promoted
    4. Slavia Sofia – in A group (I’ll explain why I’m suggesting A group teams in a sec) used to be a legendary team but is managed by a corrupt fuck. Beautiful colors (white and gold), still produce lots of youth in real life, always a sort of 3rd wheel in Sofia. A great adventure to get them to become THE elite sofia team as well.
    5. Pirin Blagoevgrad – not sure which FM you’re playing so they might be in A or B, but legendary youth team that produced Berbatov and basically the best team to take down ludogoretz – ludogoretz is nicknamed the eagles, while pirin blagoevgrad is the “little eagles” right now 🙂 just all around a great team to manage, logo, kits, history, everything

Now a few things about managing in Bulgaria – its hard. Very, very hard. Your TV revenue is, and I’m not joking, 150k per season. Sponsorships – about as much. Tickets are, again not joking, 1$ per match. Yes, you will not be making more than 2-3k from gate receipts per game. This is in the elite. B group your revenue can be maximum 20k per season or so. Winning the cup gives you 25k in prize money.

Basically you need to consistently sell players to survive until you get to the european competitions for some cash flow.

Meanwhile, your facilities will likely be trash, you will probably not own your stadium and your league is low so player value doesn’t go very high.

Only plus side is salaries are extremely low, you can pay something like 5k per season for a professional player.

All of this means managing a B team might take you 5-6 seasons to get promoted unless you start with the strongest team anyway and you might just totally run out of money and have no way to make it. It also means managing an A group team that’s not one of the top 3 (cska, levski, ludogorets) will take you probably 7-10 seasons to start winning the league. Or more. So do consider starting with an A group team as well.

If this sounds super hard – manage CSKA Sofia. We’re currently trying to break ludogorets dominance anyway and it’s not as easy as you might think. Plus it’ll take a while before you can get into the CL as well.

You’ll also need the following knowledge to even have a chance of success:

Screw over your players. A lot. Offer very long contracts by offering over the salary they demand then if they cry about a new contract reject until the bitter end. Stick em on the bench so nobody wants them, then in half a season start playing them so they’re happy (while nobody wants them).

Micromanage training. Yeh, its cheese, but until you can upgrade some facilities you’re gonna need it.

Give your all in the cup. If you can get some euro qualification money even it’ll be massive for you.

Default to a youth academy as you normally would in FM, except 10 times more dedicated. I cannot stress how much you need to develop and sell players here. Really, nothing else matters.

So yeh, hope this helps, I can answer any other questions you have 🙂

  2. As a ludogores fan – choose Etar down on its luck Bulgarian club that can’t catch a break and last more than once seaon in the top division.

Even if you don’t choose etar don’t choose Litex as it is an oligarch owned club by the same owner who owns SCKA–Sofia… it’s a long story.
