Tis the season, and I’ve seen a number of queries with regards to rights/compensation lately for cancelled flights.
This article is actually a pretty good write up of all the scenarios that may be encountered and what your rights are in those situations.
Whats the story on costs you would have paid to book accommodation at your destination?
Was due to fly back from Gatwick with Aer Lingus today at 3pm. Flight was cancelled yesterday and they automatically booked me in for another flight on Sunday around 9pm. Which is just not reasonable for me. I was coming back for an event that I now can’t make.
Anyway spent 2 hours on hold and never spoke to a person before giving up and paying 300 quid for another flight for today at 7pm (will still make me not make the event but I won’t have to stay in a random hotel in London for an extra night I haven’t booked).
Is there any action I should do. I’ve tried contacting Aer Lingus on the phone and via Twitter. No response. Worried I won’t get any refund/compensation. Total pain in the hole.
Edit: so I got home on the Saturday flight I spent extra money on thankfully. However I just got notified that the Sunday flight that Aer Lingus booked me on has just also been cancelled and they’ve given me ANOTHER ticket for the 5th. Imagine if I’d have trusted them to sort me out instead of shelling out on another flight. Absolute shitshow of a company.
