perfidious albion
Twenty-five years ago the Republic’s political establishment and media took great delight in repeating the SDLP jibe at Sinn Fein: the Good Friday Agreement is Sunningdale for slow learners.
Well, Brexit and the Johnson circus have shown the reality of Britain’s studied contempt for Ireland: perfidious Albion is not to be trusted.

The UKs political hubris, military arrogance and historical ignorance has a funny way of influencing how the international community views us.
Oh my, you must think apples are orange’s.
Anyways, the difference, in case its not clear to you, is they have agreed processes and institutions to settle differences. We are trying to opt out of not only an agreement, but also to process we agreed to sort any differences.
A serious question: does the average England, Scotland and Wales resident care about Northern Ireland? They’re so far separated from Great Britain that they may as well be their own separate country or a part of the Irish Republic.
This whole disagreement is being fabricated wholesale by the Conservatives so they have a baddie to fight and get their voters all energised.
The Tories have never cared about Northern Ireland and are happy to use it as a pawn while they can. Tory MPs are not sitting in Stormont and the Tories know they are unpopular as a fart in a lift in Northern Ireland; they are doing this for their voters in England. Being perceived as standing up to the EU is more important to the Tories than international law.
Not Britain but the Tory party.
We can’t be trusted with anything. I really hope that Ursula von der Leyen throws the book at us. Given our recent track record, we do not even deserve to have any diplomatic relations with the EU…
I wonder how my Brexit-voting, Tory in-laws are reconciling this, given one of them was born in Ireland and her kids, including my wife, have Irish passports?
No doubt with the same “head-in-sand” mental blindness this whole fucking mess of a Tory Brexit has been for the idiots that have supported it so far.
Since when was Britain trustworthy? We’ve always been labelled “Perfidious Albion”.
Although, I refuse to take that from the french.
