It’s crazy to think, but we’re just over three months away from the 2027 IIHF World Junior Championship.
On Tuesday, the International Ice Hockey Federation released the schedule for the upcoming event, set to take place in Edmonton and Red Deer, Alberta.
There are plenty of storylines heading into this year’s tournament. Many wonder if Canada can end its three-year gold medal drought. In Minnesota last year, the team managed to come away with a bronze medal, a better performance after back-to-back quarterfinal exits.
The United States is strong once again, and will be hungry to be in championship contention after their shocking quarterfinal exit in St. Paul this past January. The team that won it all last year, Sweden, is seeking its first repeat gold-medal performance in the country’s history.
The tournament will begin on Boxing Day, as tradition dictates. Rogers Place, also home of the Edmonton Oilers, will host Group B, featuring host Canada, Czechia, Latvia, Norway and Switzerland. Marchant Crane Centrium, home of the Western Hockey League’s Red Deer Rebels, will house Group A, including Finland, Germany, Slovakia, Sweden and Team USA.
