End of discussion!

  1. Saw a similar post a while back on fries so tried to investigate this. Only Belgians seems to think there is a discussion, all other agree the Pomme Pont Neuf is the origin of the fry. Obviously they got thinner later on, but cutting a potato in rectangles and then frying them in oil is a French invention.

I have heard the Namur story too, but most historians agree that region was too poor back then to sacrifice an expensive resource like animal fat on frying a potato.

Ever since I am fine with the term French Fries.

  2. This is cap,
If i google “qui a inventé les frites” i find as first answers both [french](https://www.ladepeche.fr/2021/10/18/les-frites-sont-elles-belges-ou-francaises-voici-enfin-la-reponse-9861237.php) and [belgian](https://www.rtbf.be/article/cuisine-la-frite-vient-elle-de-france-ou-de-belgique-10137480) sources to say it’s from paris ?
I would tend to think your source is wrong given you searched in english and the people qualified to answer will be either french or belgians, not americans.

Now no one will deny fries are mostly a cultural asset of flanders (mainly belgium and flanders). But parenthood seem to go to France.
