Ukraine claims it shot down 122 drones launched by Moscow overnight

At least three people were killed and over 40 others were injured in Russia and Ukraine as both countries continued to trade accusations concerning overnight airstrikes on Wednesday.

In Ukraine, the Kyiv City Military Administration (KMVA) said on Telegram that a warehouse, a fuel station, and an office building in the Holosiivskyi district and another fuel station in the Darnytskyi district were damaged in an overnight attack on the country’s capital, during which drone debris also fell at a location in the Solomianskyi district.

“As of 10 am (0700GMT), one person has died and seven others have been injured following a hostile attack on the capital,” it said.

*The KMVA later said that the number of those killed in the Ukrainian capital had risen to two, while 23 others were injured.

Odesa Governor Oleh Kiper said that one person was killed after Russian strikes targeted port and civilian infrastructure in the southern region, including an Antigua and Barbuda-flagged commercial cargo vessel and an unspecified number of warehouses.

“Due to numerous Russian attacks, rescuers from the Mykolaiv region have joined in the efforts to extinguish the fires,” Ukraine’s State Emergency Service (DSNS) said, commenting on strikes in the Odesa region.

The DSNS also reported that 12 others were injured due to strikes in the country’s Kharkiv, Zaporizhzhia, and Zhytomyr regions.

Ukraine’s Air Force claimed that the country’s air defenses shot down 122 Russian drones overnight.

Meanwhile, the Russian Defense Ministry claimed hitting a storage facility and an industrial enterprise in Kyiv and its surrounding region that are allegedly involved in the production of drones and drone components.

It also claimed striking three logistics centers in Odesa used to supply Ukraine’s military, a drone warehouse in the Odesa region, and a vessel “while it was delivering military cargo to the port of Odesa.”

Earlier, the ministry further claimed that it shot down 514 drones launched by Ukraine overnight over 18 regions, as well as the Black Sea, the Sea of Azov, and Crimea, which Russia annexed in 2014.

Alexander Shuvaev, acting governor of Russia’s border region of Belgorod, said in a statement that eight people were wounded in five districts due to Ukrainian strikes over the past day, with two of them in serious condition.

In the border region of Bryansk, acting governor Yegor Kovalchuk said two people were injured due to Ukrainian drone strikes in the villages of Kryukov and Churovichi.

Ukrainian authorities have not yet commented on strikes in Russia.

Both Russia and Ukraine have ramped up strikes in recent months, targeting each other’s logistics centers, ports, and energy infrastructure.

Both sides deny deliberately targeting civilian infrastructure, maintaining that their strikes are directed at military targets or facilities linked to military activities.
