KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — The battle for the “real” UT just got a little more interesting this weekend. President Donald Trump is expected to be in Knoxville for Saturday’s Tennessee-Texas showdown at Neyland Stadium.
President Donald Trump will attend the Tennessee-Texas football game Sept. 26 at Neyland Stadium in Knoxville, according to a White House official who confirmed the visit to WCYB.
A source told Knox News that Tennessee officials were operating under the assumption that Trump would attend, but the source requested anonymity because an official announcement had not yet been made at the time.
Trump has attended several major sporting events during his presidency, including the College Football Playoff National Championship in January and Game 3 of the NBA Finals this summer.
ESPN’s College GameDay also will be in Knoxville for the matchup, which is scheduled for noon Eastern time.
The No. 1-ranked Texas Longhorns enter the game after a 30-6 win over UTSA, while Tennessee is coming off a 42-9 victory over Kennesaw State.
Texas quarterback Arch Manning, the nephew of former Tennessee quarterback Peyton Manning, has completed 61.5% of his passes for 661 yards, seven touchdowns and two interceptions this season.
