Slovenian volleyball players have advanced to the semifinals of the European Championship – for the fourth time in a row, after defeating Belgium 3:1 (25:22, 25:22, 20:25, 25:13) in Turin.

The Slovenians, bronze medalists at the previous championship, will play Poland in the semifinals on Friday.

After losing two sets, Belgium managed to extend the match, but Slovenia completely took control in the fourth and, with convincing play, earned a place among the top four teams.

Rok Možič was the most efficient player on the winning team with 18 points, while Nik Mujanović added 14 and Klemen Čebulj 12. Belgium was led by Ferre Regers with 23 points.

“It’s an incredible feeling – we’re in the EuroVolley semi-finals for the fourth time in a row. We knew we were in for a tough match because Belgium has great players. The key was to stay calm and focus on every point. That helped us come back after losing the third set and start the fourth set strongly,” said Možič.

Slovenia will thus play in the semi-finals of the European Championship for the fourth time in a row, and their rival, probably the toughest possible, is the host Italy, who should beat Finland in the last quarter-final match in Turin tonight.

In the first semi-final, Poland will play France.

The EuroVolley final is being played in Milan.
