My partner moved to Belgium last year and had to stay home from work one day because of migraine. They needed a sick note… but didn’t have a huisarts yet. The amount of stress that brought us… no way you can sleep it off when you’re so stressed about having to find a doctor who still has appointments that day. And of course when you’re not a patient they actually want to see you before writing you a sick note, except they can’t because there are no appointments anymore.
It’s all fucked up. Good thing a lot of companies don’t need sick notes for one day anymore.
Isn’t this par for the course for employment figures? When given a choice, people choose the more lucrative options because money money money. Can we blame them?
I live in a smaller town my gf is from the uk and is so surprised whenever i tell her that i can visit a doctor the same day.
Very simple solution. Force employers or whoever requires the certificate to pay for it. Tzal rap gedaan zijn.
It is interesting how strict immigration policy for doctors in Belgium. At my home country many qualified doctors with 20 years experience, thousands of operations, are trying to leave and they always end up in Germany, Germany is kind of welcome them with open arms with basic language test.
I don’t know if it is about keeping quality high or local doctors do their best to prevent it but imho Belgium should be more open to skilled workers and vice versa should be more strict towards unskilled laborers.
Just my two cents as a foreigner, I might be wrong, locals my think otherwise… etc. etc.
