Vice President JD Vance was identified as the anonymous source behind one of the stories cited to justify barring Politico from White House grounds. The White House had cited six alleged offenses in its ban and pointed to a Politico article from June 2026 that described a preliminary deal with Iran as close but not done. The administration called the coverage “the publication of sensitive security information” and “misinformation about national security information,” while Status later reported the unnamed official was Vance. A federal judge ordered the White House to restore access for CNN, MS NOW and Politico, and granted a 14-day temporary restraining order.
