Renewed Media Square behind Antwerp Central Station inaugurated: “Oasis of greenery for relaxation”

  1. Undoubtedly the most depressingly gray “oasis of greenery” I’ve seen. Too bad Antwerp seems to be having a trend with redoing public spaces with as much concrete as possible. The finished new quays and Operaplein aren’t much to write home about either.

  2. The photo doesn’t do it justice. There is quite a bit of green in the area. You can’t compare it with a park and seeing as there is a massive parking garage underneath, the “green” solutions are limiting. I think you guys haven’t visited the place yet.

  3. I really don’t get it, why Antwerp seems so averse to green spaces. The **KIEVIT**plein’s renovation is just the latest example of this. The Steenplein, the Operaplein and soon the Zuiderdokken, massive deserts of stone and concrete. It’s just really weird and confusing why they always go for those depressingly empty and unwelcoming layouts devoid of life instead of something warm and green where you can sit down for your lunch break or read a book in the shade or something.

  4. I have no idea who can relax in the overwhelming light of that huge screen on the side of the DPD building. Talk about light pollution and a waste of energy.
