Maine is among nearly two dozen states calling on Congress to regulate artificial intelligence.
The attorneys general of 23 states, along with Washington, D.C., and American Samoa, signed a letter to congressional leaders Thursday demanding “comprehensive federal regulation and safety protocols” for the technology.
They cited recent incidents of AI systems operating beyond their safeguards.
Both major political parties in Congress appear to agree on some level of regulating the advanced technology.
But the White House has come out in opposition to any slowdown in development, arguing it’s more important for the U.S. to beat China in the AI race.
