Romania’s Prime Minister-designate Siegfried Muresan presented his governing programme to President Nicusor Dan at a closed-door meeting at the Cotroceni Palace in Bucharest, the presidential administration said on Friday.
“I had a meeting with the President, which we had agreed on at the time of my nomination, and I presented the governing programme to him. That was the purpose of the meeting and I believe it was achieved. I presented the programme in detail, and my next steps are now to finalize the structure of the government, while the three parties supporting the Cabinet will nominate their ministers,” Muresan said after the meeting.
The names of the proposed ministers could become known later on Friday.
Asked whether he had sought a public statement of support from the President for the government that is to be submitted to Parliament for approval, Muresan said he never asks other politicians for help.
“I am an independent politician, and it is my duty, together with the three parties supporting me, to secure a majority in Parliament. The President has his constitutional role in this process: he nominated me, and now it is my responsibility to present the programme and the Cabinet line-up to Parliament,” Muresan said.
